CHILLIWACK, B.C. — Higher Ground Landscaping is highlighting its drainage and stormwater correction work across Chilliwack, Abbotsford, Surrey and Langley.

Built in, not bolted on

“We’re the go-to for standing water, soggy lawns and runoff issues in neighbourhoods that were built without proper storm sewers,” said Mike Vandergugten, owner of Higher Ground Landscaping Ltd. “Grading, French drains and dry creek beds have to be built into every project from the start, not bolted on after the fact.”

A regional problem, not a one-city problem

The company reports the same pattern showing up in Langley landscaping projects as in Chilliwack and Surrey — older neighbourhoods across the Fraser Valley share the same undersized storm infrastructure.

Where the work is happening now

Current drainage correction projects span Chilliwack landscaping companies clients through to landscape design Abbotsford properties on the agricultural edge, using grading, French drains and dry creek beds suited to each site.

Assessments offered ahead of the wet season

The company says the pattern is consistent enough to plan around: any Fraser Valley property built before modern stormwater standards were adopted is a candidate for the same fix, regardless of which of the four cities it sits in. Higher Ground Landscaping is offering site assessments through the fall to identify which properties need grading work before winter rain arrives.

Vandergugten said the company built its reputation on exactly this kind of unglamorous, structural work rather than only the plantings that show up in a finished photo, which is part of why drainage correction has become one of its most requested services heading into the wetter months.

Certified crews, backed by a 2-year plant warranty

Higher Ground Landscaping Ltd. has served the Lower Mainland since 2006, with technicians certified through BCLNA, CNLA and the National Association of Landscape Professionals. Every planting install carries a 2-year warranty under the Myke Pro Landscape Warranty Program, giving Fraser Valley homeowners the same assurance on drainage corrections as on the plant material that goes in once grading is fixed. Site assessments are being offered through the fall across Chilliwack, Abbotsford, Surrey and Langley.
