The distinction matters most in Indian skin. A picosecond laser such as the PicoWay fragments pigment largely by a photoacoustic mechanism rather than a heat based one, which lowers the risk of post inflammatory hyperpigmentation that heat based pigment lasers carry in darker phototypes.
